DAVID AND CONSTANCE YATES

A wonderfully interesting treatise on The Renaissance of the Cast Medal in Nineteenth Century France, in which they trace the history of the cast medal from 15th century Italy to 19th century France.

 

MEDALS OF THE New-York Historical Society's collection

A comprehensive and interesting array of commemorative and art medals, mostly American, including a gold strike of the Augustus Saint Gaudens medallion commemorating the centennial of George Washington's inauguration.
 

NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM

A marvelous collection of commemorative medals, with images and descriptions, from the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, England.  The medals deal mostly with maritime events, including naval battles.

VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM

A diverse collection of medals from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England, including: commemorative, art nouveau, art deco and contemporary art medals.  Also contains commentary on casting and striking medals.
 

BRITISH CORONATION MEDALLIONS

As fine a group of British coronations medals as you will find in private hands published on the web,  from the collection of Geoffrey Cope.

Medaillen der italienischen Renaissance

A marvelous book by Cornelius von Fabriczy that includes images and descriptions  of nearly 200 medals of the Italian Renaissance. The book, available online, is Digitized by GOOGLE. (in German).
 

GREAT EXHIBITION OF 1851

A medallic history of the Great Exhibition of 1851, held in London, with images and descriptions of the event and the medals issued for the exhibition.

MUDIE MEDALS

Images of a set of 40 medals commissioned by James Mudie commemorating the British military victories of Admiral Nelson, the Duke of Wellington, and the Peninsular Wars against Napoleon.
 

ART MUSEUM WEB SITES

The Kunstpedia Foundation lists web sites of hundreds of art museums around the world.  Though not necessarily devoted to medals, these museums have web sites that are wonderful to visit.  Kunstpedia has provided links to all of them.
 

LITHUANIAN MEDALS

A very comprehensive, private collection of Lithuanian medals dating from 1918 to 1940.

MEDALS FROM THE COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION

Wonderful site on which is pictured most of the medals from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, as listed in Eglit.  Also included is some interesting commentary of the exposition.

Interesting site depicting  medals of Joan of Arc, with images and descriptions.  Includes links to other related websites. In French.

An absolutely wonderful site with images and historical background of medals from the Renaissance to Modern period (in German).

 

CHAZEN MUSEUM OF ART

This museum at the University of Wisconsin-Madison houses large and important collections of medals, including the Vernon Hall Collection of Renaissance and other medals and the Andrew Laurie Stangel Collection of German historical medals, including those of Karl Goetz.
