This is the finest cathedral in Norway and the scene of the coronation of the Norwegian kings. Building was begun in the 11th century and continued through the 12th and 13th centuries. It was repeatedly burned but as often restored. In the 20th century it was expanded and enriched with Vigeland sculptures.
Trondheim was one of the first ports attacked by the Germans in 1940, and although taken and held, it was a center of popular resistance to the invaders.
