TOURNAI CATHEDRAL WIENER, Jacques: Belgium, 1857, Bronze, 59 mm Tournai (Tournay, Flemish Doornik) is a city in the province of Hainaut, Belgium, on the Scheldt. The cathedral of Notre-Dame in Tournai, Belgium, dates from 1030. The Nave is Romanesque in the style of the middle of the 12th century, and has much pointed work. The transept was added in the 13th century. The first choir was burned down in 1213, but was rebuilt in 1242 at the same time as the transept and is a superb specimen of pointed Gothic. There are five towers with spires. Painting "The Issue of Souls in Purgatory" by Peter Paul Rubens
