Sultan Abdülaziz

This photograph of Sultan Abdülaziz was taken by the studio of Abdullah Frères, in Istanbul, on June 18, 1869, and was used as the model from which the medal by Wyon commemorating Sultan Abdülaziz's visit to London was made (Bahattin Öztuncay, The Photographers of Constantinople; Pioneers, Studios and Artists from 19th Century Istanbul. Istanbul: Aygaz, 2003, p. 208). This suggests that, although the medal is dated 1867, it must have been engraved and struck after that date.
