JOHN FREDERICK OSTERVALD |
|
John Frederick Ostervald (1663-1747), a Christian teacher and author, was born at Neufchatel, Switzerland. He was pastor at the Reformed Church at Geneva from 1699 until his death. He was the author of many religious treatises, but his greatest and most important work was his translation of the Bible. His writings were translated into English, some of which were printed at the expense of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. (Med. Ill.) This medal commemorates him and his works. According to Stacks, the medal has grainy surfaces from faulty planchet production as is typical. |
