Mathieu II de Lorraine, born about 1193, died in 1251, was Duke of Lorraine from 1220 to 1251. He was the son of Duke Frederick II and Agnes de Bar. He succeeded his brother Theobald I. Mathieu collaborated with the Emperor Frederick II of Hohenstaufen and accompanied him during the Sixth Crusade, then in Italy in 1235.

Catherine de Limbourg (1215-1255), daughter of Waleran III, Duke of Limbourg and Count of Luxembourg, acquired the title of Duchesses of Lorraine at the age of 10, when she married Mathieu II Duke of Lorraine in 1225. They had a son Frederick III (Ferry III) (1240-1302), Duke of Lorraine, the next Duke of Lorraine.
