The University of Utrecht was founded in 1636 in Utrecht,
the Netherlands. The university is noted for its library, which is based on
collections brought together in 1581. The public library was soon enriched
by books bequeathed by the historian Arnoldus Buchelius . Among the
manuscripts is the famous Utrecht Psalter, which contains the oldest text of
the Athanasian creed. The medal commemorates the 100th anniversary of its
founding.
